In Episode 5 of Vampire Diaries Season 2, Tyler pushes Mason to reveal more about the secrets of the Lockwood family. Damon is still nowhere near having a truce with Mason and the Salvatore brothers are arguing on how to handle Mason. Elena is trying to keep Jeremy from being too close to Tyler because being close to Tyler might hurt Jeremy. Sheriff Forbes receive a starling information from Mason that leads to the night of violence.

The Vampire Diaries follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls for the century-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Their lives grow more and more complicated as Stefan's vicious brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) returns to town with a vendetta against his brother. The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history. Other storylines revolve around the other inhabitants of the town, most notably Elena's younger brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Elena's friend Bonnie Bennett (Katerina Graham), who discovers that she is a witch, and their insecure friend Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola).
